THS Courses that meet the UC/CSU "a-g" Requirements

The FOUR YEAR PLAN for accumulating credit during high school and how this aligns with a-g requirements:

  • Students taking 6 classes daily for 4 years will complete a total of 24 classes. Students must successfully complete a minimum of 22 classes to graduate from THS.
  • Of the 22 to 24 courses taken in high school, students must complete 15 or more of these in identified subjects meeting "a-g" qualifications, earning a C or better.
  • In the junior and senior years, students must enroll in 11 courses that meet these a-g qualifications. At THS,
    - 11th graders are required to take (a) US History (b) English (c) Math (d) Integrated Science and (g) Engineering
    - 12th graders are required to take (a) Government (Semester) and (g) Economics (Semester) (b) English (c) Math (g) Engineering Students must enroll in one additional a-g course: Suggested choices are (e) Spanish* (or other language) or (f) Visual/Performing Arts
  • Any course taken beyond the minimum requirement in a subject area can be taken to meet the "g" requirement. For example, a 3rd year of science or a 4th year of math.
  • PLEASE NOTE: Courses in bold qualify for extra honors weighting (A=5, B=4, C=3) for high school class ranking purposes, but not all are weighted by UC/CSU admissions. The same course may not be used to meet admission in more than one "a-g" requirement.
